Misirlou

This is a first-rate summary of the beautiful Misirlou. We do it partly as a cha cha cha, partly as an Afro. An Afro is a slow dance rhythm that feels kind of like the Habanera — when I figure out how to display music notation here I’ll show you.

Latkepalooza

"Wow! Meshuggenismo! rocked the house at Latkepalooza. The folks here can't stop talking about you guys. Thanks so much for the over-the-top performance. Please keep me on your list and I hope to see you guys in action soon."

- email from Jill Jacobs, Jewish programs coordinator at the Peninsula JCC

Man, that was a blast.

Punk shmnunk

Yidcore, the Australian band that does kind of what we do but bows to the Ramones instead of Mr. Harlow, has put the rough cuts from their new album up on their web site. I don’t need to tell you that it rocks.

Latkepalooza!

We’re playing this cool Latkepalooza event at the Foster City JCC next week. It’s free. We kick off at 1 and go for a couple of hours. We’ve been ppolishing up some new material to try out at this one, so come and join us!

Budowitz!

Budowitz is one of my top five favorite “straight-ahead” (can I say that?) Klezmer bands. They are playing the JCC in San Francisco next month. I’ll try to remember to report on it here on our site after the show.

Blues for Peace

I sure hope these guys are onto something.

Adrian Coburg

Descarga.com, my favorite online music store, has the complete collection of Adrian Coburg’s Afro-Cuban percussion studies. This is some rich, powerful stuff. I’ve only heard a little bit of it, but I want it all.
